Carnia, the Pearl of the Italian Alps, is located northeast of Venice, south of Austria and west of Slovenia. It extends over several valleys and includes many small towns. It is a place where one can find high mountains, beautiful landscapes, rustic architecture and almost-forgotten trades.

At harvest time, vineyards all over the world provide rich views of bountiful bunches of grapes, both white and red. The autumn sun shines through the grapes, for an outstanding visual spectacle.



Wooden Masks

In the remote town of Sauris, in the Italian Alpine region of Carnia, wood carving is a thriving trade. A local craftsman introduced me to the art of making masks out of local wood.
