Vermont Foliage: Leaf Textures

I have traveled all over the world and seen plenty of very beautiful places. Foliage in Vermont is all the way up there, among the most magnificent sights to please one’s eye. Every autumn, Vermont’s hills turn intensely red, orange and gold. This is the result of a particular variant of sugar maple, combined with unique soil and climate conditions.

The colorful leaves of Autumn provide a very attractive subject for macro photography. Leaf close-ups reveal infinite structures and textures, all irregular yet somewhat geometrical. Enjoy them one buy one…

African Wood Carving

During my recent trip to Africa, I was in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. This is a nice, friendly city in the heart of French West Africa. With about 1.5 million inhabitants, it is country’s largest city and its administrative, economic and cultural center. Every other year it is the home of FESPACO, Africa’s largest film festival.

These pictures were taken in one of the main avenues of Ouagadougou, between the center and the headquarters of FESPACO. Some of the majestic trees lining the side of the avenue were about to die. Local wood carvers were called in, to make sculptures out of them. Impressive!

African Hands

Africa is a continent of hard working people. The strain of daily life can be seen in this collection of beautiful African hands. Each image tells its own story, from the vigorous male hands to the lady touching colorful peppers, from the young girl with dark nails to the woman milling flower with a stick.

These photos are from Mali and Burkina Faso, in West Africa. They represent just a sample of the countless hand photographs I took during a recent trip.

Desert Landscapes

Close your eyes and imagine you are in the middle of the desert. The only sound you hear comes from a light breeze that caresses your senses. Now open your eyes. You see just two colors: the blue sky and the brown sand, creating the most beautiful contrast your eyes can see. In the evening, two camels rest peacefully with the sun setting against the orange sky.

These pictures were taken in the Arabian Peninsula, between Oman and Abu Dhabi, with the exception of the sunset camels, photographed near Jaisalmer, in the Indian state of Rajasthan, not too far from the border with Pakistan.
